HRH PRINCE SULTAN BIN ABDUL AZIZ AL-SAUD


 

 

Place & Date of Birth

HRH Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz was born in the City of Riyadh on Thursday the 13th of Rageb, 1346 H (the 5th of January, 1928)

 Up Growth and Education

His Highness was brought up and reared under the custody of his father King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, God bless his soul, the founder of the modern Saudi state. Like other members of King Abdul Aziz’s house he enjoyed his father’s care and grow virtuously. He learned the teachings of the Holy Quran and Arabic Science under the supervision of famous scholars. This religious upgrowth greatly affected his manners and behaviour and was reflected in his public life, his relations with people, and his management of the various job’s responsibilities assigned to him.

 Official Position & Major Achievements

King Abdul Aziz laid his confidence on his son and appointed him Prince of Riyadh in the 1st of Rabie Al-Awal, 1366 H (the 22nd of February, 1947). Together with his father, he founded a consolidated administrative system based upon social and the application of Islamic Sharia.

 He was appointed a member of the Council of Ministers upon his appointment as a Minister of Agriculture on Thursday the 18th, Rabie Al-Thani, 1373 H (24th of December, 1953) and the formation of Saudi Council of Ministers. There he contributed towards the settlement of nomadic “Badu” via the establishment of modern farm ranches.

 After that he was appointed as Minister of Transportation on Saturday the 20th, Rabie Al-Awal 1375 H (5th of November 1955) His contribution there was in the area of the introduction of modern transportation network and telecommunication.

 He was appointed as Minister of Defence & Aviation thereafter on Saturday the 3rd, Jumada Al-Akhar, 1382 (21st of October 1962), a position he is still holding. Here he has pronounced impacts in the promotion of military forces branches i.e. ground, naval, air, and air defence. He established military cities all over the kingdom and secured housing, uniforms, transportation to pertaining cadres who enjoyed stable life that guarantee tranquility to them and their families. They became completely devoted and dedicated to the service of their religion, king, and their homeland, the kingdom. He is still providing more efforts to upgrade and modernize health care for military forces.

 Finally, he was appointed via a Royal Decree as a Second Deputy Premier on Saturday the 21st, Shaban, 1402 H (13th of June 1982).

 Honorary Positions & Committees Under His Supervision

HRH Prince Sultan chairs a number of Committees amongst which are, The Higher Committee for Education Policy and the Higher Committee for Admin., Reform & Labour Force Council. At present, he chairs the Higher Corporation for Islamic Mission, the Higher Council for Islamic Affairs in the Kingdom, the Board of Directors of Saudi Airlines, the National Corporation for Wildlife Preservation & Development, the Ministerial Committee for Environment, the Board of Directors of the General Corporation for Military Industries and the Higher Committee for Economic Stability. He is the Higher Chairman of the Tourist Council and the Board of Directors of the International Arabic Encyclopedia which he finances from his own private resources. This is a valuable service he provides to Arabic/Islamic Worlds in the dissemination of science, knowledge, and technology for the vital need that exists. He is also the President of Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Humanitarian Corporation wherein he heads the Council of Trustees.

 He headed the kingdom’s delegation to the U.N. organizations meeting in 1405H (1905) where he delivered an important speech. He also headed the kingdom’s delegation that participated in the U.N. (50 years anniversary) in 1995 and attended a number of regional and international meeting and conferences.
